News from the editors:

Just a quick note... Eric and I have been extremely busy at work lately, hence the no newsletter for awhile... so I thought I would do one.. no it's not as good as usual, but there are some good links to information we have on the site, and some other tidbits I hope you find valuable!  We're always looking for stories too.. so if you have something you want to send out to the world, email us!

News:
Well, we're growing and growing!  We're now to the point where one domain is good enough, so we bought another!  If you haven't been on the site in awhile, then you might have missed the launch of mtbforums.com.  This domain stores our chat forums... basically this is our online community!  Come and join in, see what all the fuss is about!

Win some Carbon Fibre in our Photo Contest:
Photo Contest on now!  We have a photo contest for a set of Carbon Fibre Bar-ends (No, these are not bull-horns!).  Check here for prize photos and contest details.  The skinny is, upload a photo of you, or a photo you have taken to the gallery.  The top 10 will be chosen for voting, then everyone on the site can vote for the winner!  Simple eh?

Video's... we're going Crazy Hosting!:
Wow... we have a load of videos now!  All local talent showcasing what they can do.  No, not Kranked, but real riders out there having fun, and showing their skills.  Make sure to check the videos out today: http://www.mtbkanata.com/video.html

Wrench:

Our local wrench will try to answer all reasonable questions related to maintenance tips and will provide one article each issue on how to perform some type of maintenance. Send your suggestions for articles to wrench@mtbkanata.com

Due to our extreme workload (at our real job) lately, I thought I'd just summarized for the Wrench...So here are some of the active threads going on right now in the Wrench's forum on mtbkanata.  You can give your comments, ask questions, or just read long!

Featured MTB Website:

http://www.bikeforums.net/

Large bikers community with over 4,000 registered members and over 100,000 posts!  This is what our site would like to be, just we're not there yet.  I like to think of this site as Pinkbike, without all the attitude!  If you do follow the link, send me a Private Message.  I am registered as mtbkanata.  Oh, and yeah, you can only go here if you are a member of our forums first!

Featured Product:

Digital Camera!

Okay, so I know that's not a mountain bike part, but in the right hands with a mountain bike in front, you can make some excellent MTB photos!  If you have not seen already, we have quite an extensive collection of MTB photos in our galleries!  Check out here.  We're always looking for new ways to display mountain biking, and try and capture just what it means to ride.  If you have some photos you'd like to share, logon and upload today!

Here is the equipment we use:

JVC GC-QX5HD 3.3 MP Digital.

Not too bad of a camera.. it does a 3 shot burst which I find to be the coolest feature available on digi-cams... Flaws, well you can't lock the Shutter, and when you are in low-light (Like a forest), the shots of riders are all blurry.  This is a great action shot camera in the sunlight only... I'll have to get another one for the dark!

The list of reviews is slowly (read: VERY SLOWLY), growing... I can only review so much, so if you have a product you have reviewed, send me the details, and I'll make a page for it!  webmaster@mtbkanata.com

Environment:

Well, what can I say.  There is always a controversy going on... and the big one right now is Mountain Bike access to trails.. no, not paths, or wide double lane dirt roads.. but true trails.. or as we call them 'Single-track'.  Everyone knows what it takes to be a mountain bike trail... narrow, technical, windy... single-track.  However, we are always stuck on the Multi-use trails... which means 8-12 feet wide and gravel.  Parks around the area are going out of their way to accommodate hikers with hiker only trails.. what are they doing for us?  Well, in Ottawa nothing, but that's not the case everywhere!  Charlottenburg has set up a excellent Mountain Bike Area.. imagine that!  A place for us to feel at home.. a place to ride!

Here is a link from the other-side.. It's a little bias and local, so don't get too mad:

http://www.safetrails.net

Give it a read.. let me know what you think!

Ride Review:

Camp Fortune... Okay, other than one small incident which involved me going to the hospital, Camp Fortune this fall offered up the best Downhill Experience in the National Capital Region!  Many thanks to Gary, for showing us the trails (and lending me a big DH bike!)  Over the winter we plan on doing some trail GPS work, and create a map of the area.  If you're in town, you have to try Fortune out!

Here is the hills official website: http://www.campfortune.com

Flat Tire Award Nomination:

This is a a simple one.. no helmet boy!

Check it out here!

The Question - this issue:

Question: What are you going to do with your winter?

Answer: Well for some, that just means riding in cold weather, for others it means riding in the same hot weather we have all year round (I hate you all), but for everyone, it means chatting in the ride community!  What's better than spending the winter chatting it up with your friends?  Well riding with your friends I guess... but that is not always an option!  Well, I hope to see you online soon!

Dream Bike:

This seemed like a good idea for our newsletter but as it turns out everybody already rides their dream bike or chooses to discuss it in the forum... Some such developments were Henri's (a.k.a. Ik_jij_en_jou-NL-) 24 Cycles Porn King and Castor's LTD edition Rocky Mountain Slayer custom build. Don't hesitate to submit a dream bike to us, whether still in the dream stage, planning stage or as a mission accomplished.

The Web:

Hey all, well new month (well, months) new stats!  As you can see, we have made a few changes, and added quite a few new movies!  As the site is always in transition, expect to see many more changes in the upcoming months... now, if only I was any good at graphic design!
