I went out for my first ski on my new Atomic Motion 6 cross country skis. I was out in stony swamp. I was skiing along when I suddenly felt scrraaape, there was something hard under the new snow that was falling. This happened a few times during the ski. When I got home I checked out the bases, and there were a few scrapes in each skis base, like as if I had taken a nail and dragged it along the ski. I'm a little annoyed about this, although I guess it happens. These skis were an upgrade from my old 1980's skis that had tons of nicks and scratches. Should I be worried about these scratches, or are a few scratches on new skis alright?

I'd suggest just filling the crack in with whatever wax you are using before you go out.

Bring it in to Fresh Air Experience and they'll fill it in with p-tex (the stuff your base if made of). It depends how deep they are, wax might do the trick.

Get it done by a shop if its an expensive ski (seeing as its an atomic I think it is). I have an old Forum snowboard, and i knicked the abse pretty bad in 3 spots. But seeing as its old, i didnt care so I removed all the wax, took a glue gun glue stick, melted it into the scrapes, then took a new razor and cut it clen wiht the base, and rewaxed...no problems since.

BUt since its a new ski and its expensive, get a shop to do it.

Oh my...

P-Tex sticks are really cheap and all you have to do is take a lighter and put the flame on it until the P-tex catches. Then let the p-tex drip into the gouge, once the gouge is filled wait for it to dry then scrape it off with a wax scraper. Because p-tex shrinks a little as it hardens, you may have to go over a second time in some spots. All this of course is assuming your ski base is actually made of p-tex and since I'm not familiar with the atomic motion 6, I'd recommend taking it to any ski shop and they should be able to let you know.

Also, if it is down to the core it gets a little more complicated and if it's not actually that big, wax will fill it fine.

^^^ hahah i love the reply..."oh my.."

Mind you i used a p-tex on the good snowbaord i had and it turned out fine. Its just that i dont care about my old board(jib board) so w/e.

yeah pretty much any sporshop that carry boards or skis will sell p-tex sticks. had a HUGE gash in my board from a poorly maintenanced box, p-tex stick worked wonders.
