nice.
They could've taken the impending fallout from the Light Rail Project and covered half the funding right there.

..instead we'll line a bunch of lawyers pockets for a few years on our dime.

aint' government just peachy..

Damn shameful foresure. Who knows what the hell they are thinking. Same goes for the recent Herc contract at 5,000,000,000,000.oo, all that work is going south of us.
Time to start buffing up the resume and prepare to work at a big box store.

Anyhow, anyone in Engineering looking for work, go to Calgary. As the oil industry is still booming, there are plenty of engineering jobs here being left unfilled. Heck, I just got offered a job today and the guy was willing to pay well over 100k. Then there is the standard of living though.... a typical house runs around 350k.
Places like that ExpressCargo place has a sign up "now hiring 10.oo hr + bonus". Even that job is tempting, after taxes and considering no OT etc...

There use to be some great engineering work done in Canada. Back in the 80s there use to be a rule that all federal government contracts had to be 80% completed in Canada. Now, its the cheapest place wins.
Heck, here in Ottawa alone some great work went on at Nortel and surrounding companies.
The last company I worked for built one of the world's first dual camera missile tracking systems. Was and still is an amazing system.

I don't foresee any sort of innovation coming out of Canada in the next little while though. The investment isn't there and nor is the political backing.

The mentality is - lets keep the economy rocking and rolling on resources, housing, and consumer purchases. Where the heck is that going to get us in the long run?

Shame really. We have some really bright and innovative people. My fear is that most will slowly dwindle away as the investment just isn't there.
(somewhat like an investment in athletics, if the investment isn't there then eventually those that train hard will leave or dwindle away).

my take on it anyhow.

I think we should of set up a pole here to see who was interested in the project

EDIT: opps, i thought this was going to talk about the LRT
